Art, Creative Industries, Tech & Knowledge Infrastructures across Africa and its Global Diaspora
Description
Hosted by re:publica x Contemporary And (C&) this gathering is the beginning of an ongoing initiative to connect practices and perspectives shaping emerging cultural and technological ecosystems in Africa and Germany in collaboration with the Global Diaspora.
This meet-up brings together people working at (or curious about) the intersection of art, creative industries, technology, and knowledge across Africa and its global diasporas. From AI to archives, from platforms and practices to content creation, we want to open up a space to exchange, question, and connect.
Let’s talk about possibilities and challenges:
- How can we collaborate with stakeholders on the African continent, and what is needed to ensure a partnership of equals?
- What exciting organisations in the digital sector are there on the African continent?
- How do we build ethical, bias-aware systems? Who gets access, visibility, and agency?
- What does digital justice and data sovereignty actually look like in practice?
- What might be the next steps for collaboration with stakeholders on the African continent, and who would like to get involved?
Whether you are currently working on projects, developing ideas, or simply curious to connect - this is a space to meet and exchange.
We are particularly interested in conversations around:
- cross-regional and interdisciplinary collaboration
- rethinking digital knowledge infrastructures
- AI and search as cultural tools
- new models of access, representation, and visibility
As part of the meet-up, a short 10-minute impulse will present the recently published Mapping Berlin's Creative Industries. In the Context of the Berlin–Windhoek Sister City Partnership (commissioned by Projekt Zukunft / Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises) – offering a concrete entry point into the wider conversation on equitable cooperation between Berlin and the African continent.
