Earth as Mothership in the Dawn of Space Exploration
Description
While humanity’s destiny may be to one day explore ‘strange new worlds’ throughout our galaxy, our priority should be to nurture our home: Spaceship Earth. This talk will bridge speculative visions of 21st century space exploration with the past and future
Our planet is our home and we can reclaim a celestial narrative through speculative visions. We hold in our hand intergenerational responsibility.
Each of the six early cradles of civilization built holy places to align with heavenly events.
Now is a moment to not give up on our planet or dreams of exploring the heavens.
Interplanetary philosopher Mathana has previously spoken about space ethics at re:publica proposing a series of “New Rules” for humanity to be a responsible spacefaring species; this year they will outline a vision for a philosophy of space exploration that can inform our 21st century ideals towards responsible and interoperable technology development, promotion of new human-focused social institutions, sustainable resource management and protection of bio-ecologies.
We will not give up on Earth; even as we reach for the stars. By looking to the past we can discover a brighter vision for the future.
